Prof. Dr. Sabine Fuss is currently Co-Chair of the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC Berlin) and also heads of the research group at MCC. She holds a professorship on Sustainable Resource Management and Global Change at the Geography Department at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Previously, Prof. Fuss worked at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria.
Her expertise is in sustainable development, tropical rainforest conservation, and climate change mitigation, with a particular focus on Carbon Dioxide Removal from the atmosphere (CDR). She was Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C and was appointed to the European Academy of Sciences in 2021. Prof. Fuss received her PhD in economics from Maastricht University in 2008.
Sabine Fuss has been a member of IRI THESys since 2024. As part of the KOSMOS board, she curates the institute’s KOSMOS lecture series.
