Doctoral Researcher

Liliana Mosquera is a doctoral researcher in the Hydrology and Society research group of the Department of Geography and IRI THESys. She is an Ecologist and holds an MSc from the Erasmus Mundus program of the European Union in International Rural Development.

Her research at IRI THESys aims to understand the process of hydrosocial territorialisation under the Sentence T-622, a Columbian policy directive which gave personhood rights to the Atrato river, located in Colombia’s north western region. Through her research project, Liliana has been part of the official multidisciplinary Expert Panel which monitors this ongoing process with Colombian universities, NGOs and research institutes.

Before beginning her doctoral studies, Liliana worked for seven years as a researcher at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute of Biological Resources in Colombia on topics related to the direct use of biodiversity, integration of knowledge systems, ecosystem services and integrated ecosystem management. She has also worked on management projects led by the WWF and FAO in landscapes impacted by mining and environmental conflicts in protected areas in Colombia.
