The popular Chemistry World featured THESys Member Gretchen Bakke’s 2013 study on lubricants and lubrication which traces the history- starting with the trade in whale fat, which was superseded by the development of petroleum jelly in the 1860s. The article explores how chemists and chemicals affect society, for instance the emerging subfield of chemo ethnography.

THESys Member Robert Arlinghaus was featured on the Humboldt University’s  Drei Fragen, Drei Antworten Series. In the interview Arlinhouse explaines the significance of winning the German Communicator Prize from the German Science Foundation (DFG) and the Stifterverband. When asked what made it possible to focus on science communication, he outlines key points including government funding, as well as institutional support from the Albrecht Daniel Thaer-Institute for Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences and IRI THESYS.
