IRI THESys Lecture by Carl-Friedrich Schleussner
From knowledge to action? Climate research and political decision-making processes using the example of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

Where? HU BerlinFor more than 30 years, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been compiling the findings of climate research and warning about the consequences of climate catastrophe. In this lecture Carl-Friedrich Schleussner wants to critically examine and discuss the role of climate research for political decision-making processes and in particular also the climate negotiations and the Paris Agreement.
Carl-Friedrich Schleussner is a climate physicist and has received his PhD with distinction at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). At IRI THESys, he leads the research group "Temporal Evolution of Barriers to Adaptation and their Relevance for Climate Related Loss and Damage” (EmBARK), a consortium project with Climate Analytics in Berlin. Carl’s publication record spans a wide range from climate extreme and climate impact projections including water availability and food production to tipping elements and societal implications of climate change. In particular, he has focused on science related to 1.5°C degree warming and regional climate impact projections.
Carl’s lecture is part of the lecture series “Der grüne Faden”, organized by the student-driven Sustainability Office at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
