The scientific challenges in the Amazon and global environmental change
At the site of the historic “Kosmos Lectures,” the lecture series of Humboldt University was inaugurated on the occasion of Alexander von Humboldt’s 250th birthday by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and climate researcher Paulo Artaxo. Environmental physicist Artaxo is one of the most prominent scientists in South America. He played a leading role in the 2007 report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), for which he and his team were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The opening lecture was conducted with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal President, and Paulo Artaxo, professor of environmental physics at the University of São Paulo, Brazil.
