Doctoral Researcher
Denis Momanyi is pursuing doctoral studies at the Department of Agricultural Economics, Albrecht Daniel Thaer-Institute and the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems (IRI THESys), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Additionally, he is an affiliate doctoral researcher at the Sustainable Land Use in Developing Countries (SusLAND) working/research group at the Leibniz-Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), Müncheberg.
Before joining IRI THESys, he was a guest/visiting scientist at ZALF, and also, prior, held a number of University tutorial fellowship stints in his native Kenya. He holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Agricultural and Applied Economics between Egerton University, Kenya, and the University of Pretoria, South Africa. An Elsa-Neumann-Scholarship fellow, Denis works under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hermann Lotze-Campen (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, PIK & IRI THESys) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Sieber (SusLAND, ZALF); and externally under Prof. Robert Marchant (York Institute for Tropical Ecosystems, KITE, University of York, UK).
The ingenuity of IRI THESys unconventionally challenges Denis to transcend beyond merely doing empirical trans, multi, interdisciplinary research, translating to meaningful, impactful, sustainable, and lifelong socio-ecological actions and contributions. He aims at investigating the heterogeneous (distributional) impacts and adaptation to climate and environmental change within Kenyan socio-ecological systems, through a people-centric holistic multidisciplinary assessment framework.
