Guest Researcher
Sylvia Schmidt joined IRI THESys under PROVIDE and SPARCCLE projects, working in stakeholder engagement to support interdisciplinary exchange between researchers and external, relevant groups (i.e. policymakers, subject matter experts, practitioners) for relevant project results. Sylvia performs policy analysis of trade-offs between adaptation and mitigation within SPARCCLE, while also supporting SPARCCLE’s co-development of EU stress test scenarios. Sylvia aims to apply qualitative approaches and methods within interdisciplinary projects to inform and further science-based climate change adaptation.
Sylvia has a background in human geography, with a BA from Rutgers University and an MSc from Humboldt in Integrated Natural Resource Management. Sylvia also works in stakeholder engagement for a range of projects with Climate Analytics. Her previous work includes involvement and support of other scenario co-development exercises, workshops, webinars, and climate services engagement. Previously she supported the US FEMA in community engagement toward regional hazard mitigation.
